Cycling In The Mountains: The 15 players that have hit for the cycle at Coors Field

April 11, 2017 Peter Elliott

Last night, Wil Myers became the first batter to hit for the cycle in 2017. A nice night for him, my fantasy team, and the 20,504 fans in attendance. Of course, he did at Coors Field; since its opening in 1995, Coors has produced 15 cycles. The next closest park is Globe Life (Rangers) with 7. In fact, those 15 make up 18.3% of all cycles in that span (Myers was the 82nd).

I was curious to know how cycles compared with no-hitters in recent years. Those two are generally thought of as being similar in their frequency. No-hitters have occurred more frequently the past few years, with last year being the exception. Jake Arrieta's no-no in April was the only one all year. That was very surprising, as there were seven in 2015.

I have listed those below. Feel free to play along at home. You can comment on this post or send us an email (afootinthebox@gmail.com). Have a great Sunday!

Saturday Conversation: A baseball convert?

April 8, 2017 Peter Elliott

This weekend, I'm writing from Kansas City on my annual road trip with my friend Matt. For longtime listeners, you may remember Matt from Episodes 12 (live from a Cubs-Indians game) and 57 (White Sox game on July 4th).

By his own admission, Matt is not a die-hard baseball fan. But, the Cubs postseason run last year piqued his curiosity and he is more open to the game than ever before. This morning, I sat down with Matt at a hipster coffee shop in downtown KC to gage his current interest in baseball and his ideas for improving the sport.

What's On Yadier Molina's Chest?

April 7, 2017 Peter Elliott

How's that for a headline? If you didn't see what happened during the Cubs-Cardinals game yesterday, you probably assumed this post had to do with a bad tattoo. But no, we are talking about Mr. Molina's chest protector. Watch the play below if you missed it.
