A Foot In The Box Summer Flicks

Among many other things, baseball is known for its movies. The Natural, Bull Durham, A League of Their Own, Major League, Sandlot, Eight Men Out, Field of Dreams, Moneyball… The list goes on and on. Those are the classics. But, another genre of baseball movies exists. A genre that the critics might look down upon, but one that still deserves its rightful place in film history. They are "Fun Bad" baseball movies. To be included in the Fun Bad genre, a move must be unintentionally funny. This could be because of poor acting, poor writing, or the real winning combo, poor acting AND poor writing. Baseball movies in the Fun Bad category also contain the entertainment and hilarity that comes with game action.

This August, A Foot In The Box is setting out to give these films the credit and air time they deserve. And we need you, the listeners, to play a big part in that. We’re calling it “A Foot In The Box Summer Flicks”, or #AFITBSummerFlicks for short. To hear the full unveiling, listen to Episode 17 of our podcast. But, if you don’t want to do that, it’s pretty simple. From the following list of movies, send us your favorite (@AFootInTheBox, afootinthebox@gmail.com). We’ll pick 3-5 winners randomly this Sunday. The winners will be mailed a DVD of the movie they selected next week. After receiving the movie, Paul and I will find a time to watch the film with each winner while they watch from their home. We’ll live-tweet each viewing experience and invite others into the goodness that is Fun Bad baseball movies.
