End of the season awards. It's an annual tradition we do around here. Of course, this is our first year in existence so that doesn't mean much. We announced the winners on Episode 26 of the podcast, so listen to that if you'd like to hear our voices. And you can look back at our midseason awards.

In mid-August, I posted a ranking of each contender's "Top Four" starting pitchers based on Wins Above Replacement (WAR). Below is an updated list. The WAR totals come from Fangraphs and are calculated from games through September 14.

One factor that can help a team the most in the playoffs is great starting pitching. To win in the postseason, you have to get great performances from your starting staff. So, which 2015 contenders have the best rotations? More specifically, which teams have the best “Top Four”? The last team to use a three-man rotation in the playoffs was the 2009 Yankees (Sabathia, Burnett, Pettittte). Since then, every team to make the World Series has used at least four starters. Listed below is a ranking of the 18 remaining contender’s Top Four based on WAR (Fangraphs). This isn’t a perfect barometer of future playoff success, but it does give you an idea for what teams might be dangerous. And after all, can anything really predict October?

Among many other things, baseball is known for its movies. The Natural, Bull Durham, A League of Their Own, Major League, Sandlot, Eight Men Out, Field of Dreams, Moneyball… The list goes on and on. Those are the classics. But, another genre of baseball movies exists. A genre that the critics might look down upon, but one that still deserves its rightful place in film history.
